Sew and Roll

Hello everyone! Once again, I have been missing from my blog. If you aren’t following along over on my Instagram then you wouldn’t know that I have moved out of Boston. My family and I now live in Puerto Rico! This is something my partner and I have wanted to do for over ten years. Our children were so on board that it was meant to be. To be 100% honest, Covid-19 really pushed us into making this dream come true. It was scary but we jumped into it anyway. You can’t make dreams come true from your comfort zone so we made ourselves uncomfortable. For now, we are staying with my parents and my mom has a sewing machine I was able to borrow for this project.

When True Bias reached out to me about sewing up something skating related I was all over it. I have been on a skating journey since March and I was documenting it on my personal page and eventually it spilled over into my sewing page. I couldn’t wait to get outside, Into my “me mades” and skate around. Of course I was also in the middle of moving but I ordered some outdoor skates to replace my indoor cheap amazon ones and I was out and about. I must admit, I am far better at indoor skating.

Even though I don’t have all my stuff nor my own home yet this challenge was not something I was going to pass up. So of course I went to a store in PR that I know has amazing spandex and lycra fabrics, Tela Bella, and grabbed the brightest fabric I could find. I wanted to bring 90s to the look with all the colors while also making my current obsession, biker shorts/workout gear. The shorts were self drafted after multiple failures at getting the size right on the Jalie Clara shorts. For the top, I used the Jane Bikini Top on the Makerist website. Instead of using a closure for the back of the top I decided to just sew it closed since the fabric is stretchy, so far it has worked great.

Besides all the color my favorite part about this make is that I can wear it for skating, working out and as beach wear. I am absolutely in love and I am so happy to have been a part of this #sewandroll group of amazing makers/skaters of all levels.
