Leopard is totally in this fall, as it always in every single fall that I can remember. To me it’s like a neutral and can literally be worn with everything. I also believe it is a staple and a must have in your wardrobe but that’s just my opinion. I just wanted to start this blog post off with that because this is one of two looks I will be blogging about that contains leopard print.
This past September, I made my first ever trip to Nevada. One day I woke up and told my husband that I really, really wanted to see the desert. I had a specific one in mind but I didn’t care as long as I saw a desert. I have never seen a desert before and I had the weirdest urge to see one. Immediately we started searching for a place to stay and came across the Falcon Cottage in Pahrump, Nevada and after seeing that- I was sold. We were going to the desert!
Naturally, I thought about what I would wear there because I can’t go there and NOT do a photoshoot, duh. I wanted something simple but WOW worthy. I thought about my leopard print fabric from LA Finch fabrics and how I wanted to use it for this trip. Fortunately, while I was searching for a fabric for my collab with Johanna my mother pointed out this pattern. To be honest, I didn’t like the sample on the envelope but it called to me just as it did to my mom. I turned it around and saw the line drawing and thought ‘I can make this fabulous with my leopard print’. The pattern was a see and sew pattern B6577 and for $3 I thought why not.
This pattern features a skirt yoke that has a gathered band at the top. I of course was having a thought time sewing this fabric as it is thin and very very stretchy but I kept going. I ended up putting the gathered part of the yoke on the INSIDE instead of on the outside where it belongs. I like this better though because the gathered yoke adds bulk to an area where I already have some bulk (lol). That wasn’t an issue though because it looked great just like this, next time I will totally skip the gathering altogether.
Now how I styled it. I have had this mustard corset style top for a long time now and I really wanted to wear it again or it was going in the donate pile. It was the perfect pairing for this skirt, it really gave the outfit a wow factor. Originally, I had paired this with some wedge sandals but since I have never been to the desert I was afraid a scorpion would sting me with open toes (lol). I ended up at the outlet near Vegas and found the cutest sneaker wedge in the Aldo outlet and thought it would go perfectly, and it did. The sneakers really gave it that Andrea touch. In highschool, I was the one known to ruin an outfit with sneakers so I’m just going to continue doing that because it is SO me!
Enough about the outfit though! This TRIP was an experience I ACTUALLY miss the desert and even considered moving there, if only I could take the ocean with me. While we were there we visited Last Vegas, my mother-in-law and I, while the kids hit up a NASCAR race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We visited the Hoover Dam on the Arizona line, a ghost town in Rhyolite, close to California and Death Valley. I am in total awe of Nevada and the scenery there. Others may see it as a ton of nothing but I saw a ton of beauty, serenity and a bit of wild wonder. The Mojave Desert was just as amazing as I thought it would be and the connection I made with it is of another world. I have been craving to go back like I crave to go back to Puerto Rico. I want to go ahead and take this moment to say, travel because your money will return but your time will not. I know that is easier said than done, I know the struggle after being unemployed for over a year but I would never trade these experiences for anything else not even all the money in the world. My children have been speaking about this experience since we got back and that is what tells me I made the right choice. I also want to say we do fly free as well as my husband works for an airline this is exactly why I take advantage. I want to show my boys what I have yet to see.
I also wanted to take this blog post as an opportunity to introduce my latest project, press on nails! I have been wanting to get my nails done but i just can’t sew with them on so I decided to make my own press ons that I can remove when I’m not photographing a look. I will be making some to sell so if you are interested please send me a message. In honor of this trip to the desert and the FALL i introduce the DESERT LEOPARD SET. I will be selling a limited number of them as they are all hand painted and supplies are limited!
See you all at the next post!! Thanks for reading!
