Welcome back to my birthday sewing sneak peek! For this sneak peek, I decided to make a pair of shorts. I am not a big fan of the color pink BUT for some reason I really wanted to use pink for my trip to Puerto Rico. I wanted to make bright summery clothes to celebrate the last festival of the holidays in Puerto Rico. I have never been to these festivals and I am super excited. Every time I take a trip, I always have a color I am feeling for that trip and this time it was PINK.
For this outfit, I decided to use a pink gingham fabric that I have actually used for a previous project but in a different color. I wanted to make a pair of pink gingham shirts to wear with a crop top. Originally, I wanted to make a tie-up gingham crop but after the shorts, I didn’t have enough fabric left. I did however find a white ponte knit remnant in my stash (score!).
For the shorts, I used Simplicity pattern 8389 View C. I have used this pattern before and had trouble getting the pants up past my hips and butt. The waistband is elasticized in the back only so I feel like it doesn’t allow for much stretch to pull them on. While these shorts are hard for me to get on they look EXTREMELY cute once I DO have them on. I omitted the pockets because it made the front of the pants too puffy and I did shorten them a bit because they reached mid thigh and I wanted them a bit shorter, for tropical reasons (lol).
For the crop top, I used a crop top that I already had as a pattern. I was going to make it a short sleeved top but I liked it better as a tank top. This tank top will also have my logo ironed on to it. I made a glitter vinyl on my cricut machine for it and I cannot wait to wear it!
Here is a little sneak of the whole outfit minus the vinyl. I will be paring it with this tiny cute little purse my mother bought me. It was supposed to be a kid purse but it was too cute to pass up. I expressed to her how cute it was and she went and bought it for me (moms are the best, I know because I am one).
I hope you all join me again for (hopefully) two more sneak peek outfits and the final collection of NEW (and some old) birthday looks at the end of January. Also, join me on Instagram to watch me post as I go on @mssew_itall.
